Thank you to EVERYONE who took dance lessons during the ChinaVirus of 2020.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have not scheduled any DANCE LESSONS for 2021.
Now that the COVID pandemic is fading, and Texas Gov. Abbott has lifted the mask mandate statewide, we may look at doing some lessons in the fall.
Our C&W Dance Classes are held at the store during the months of April through August on the dates noted on the schedule below. All classes are open to adults and mature teens. Both, singles and couples are both welcome!!
Old (2020) NEWS - PLEASE READ.
In prior years, by May 22, we had already held classes in April, we typically enjoyed had a packed house for the May classes, most of the June classes would be close to sold out, and the July classes would be nearly half sold out. Folks truly enjoy taking my dance lessons nearly as much as I enjoy teaching them. However, the CoronaVirus/COVID19 pandemic has pretty much decimated this year's dance lessons schedule. We've already cancelled the April and May classes, and registrations for June classes are just a slow trickle. Understandably, many folks are hesitant to jump into an activity that cannot be learned while 6 feet away from your dance partner. So, as of May 22, I'm abbreviating the remainder of the dance lessons schedule by eliminating the Thursday evening classes and Saturday crash courses, and I'm changing the dance taught during the Friday night classes for July and August. So, instead of holding fifteen classes this summer, we'll hold three. You read that right. Just three. Three. Please know that I absolutely, truly enjoy teaching dancing and seeing the enjoyment it bring my students. And, it pains me to make these changes. However, for a variety of reasons, it's the correct course of action given the situation. Please accept my apologies for these changes. - Chris
Monthly classes are ninety minutes in length, and meet four times a month on Thursdays or Fridays. Class times are 7 to 8:30 pm. Class dates are noted on the schedule below. The cost for an entire month of lessons is $55 for guys and $45 for ladies. Why the difference in price? We spend more time with the guys as they must learn more. (Plus, guys drink more of the free beer!)
Crash Courses are where we condense the material from the monthly class into a single two hour period. Yes, compressing several hours of instruction into a single two hour class makes for a very brisk pace! Crash Courses are taught on Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The cost is $45 per couple. Folks take this class for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to... taking it as a refresher, or they don't want to commit to a month-long class just yet, or they simply want to dip their toes into the world of C&W dancing.

Two Step - This is a beginning-level class, with no prerequisite classes.
Western Polka-This is a beginning-level class, with no prerequisite classes. For what it's worth, Western Polka is significantly easier to learn than Two Step. And, a large portion of western music has a polka rhythm. So, you cannot go wrong taking this class prior to the Two Step class.
Jitterbug- This is a beginning-level class, with no prerequisite classes.
Two Step & Western Polka Crash Course- This is abeginning-levelclass, with no prerequisite classes.
Jitterbug Crash Course - This is a beginning-level class, with no prerequisite classes.
NOTE: It is*very* important that participants in the Western Swing class already know and feel comfortable with the material in the Two Step & Western Polka classes. It is very difficult to learn the material in the Western Swing class if you do not already have a good grip on the basics. As such, this is why the Two Step & Western Polka classes are prerequisites to the Western Swing class..
Western Swing- This is a more advanced-levelclass, and the prerequisites are both the Two-Step & Western Polka classes. This class focuses on teaching the guy how to lead ladies through a double-turn. It sounds easy enough, but learning to coordinate hands separately from feet can be challenging. And, ladies learn how to double-turn without losing balance or getting dizzy.
2020 Class Schedule - Subject to change based upon customer feedback & demand.
APRIL & MAY DANCE LESSONS: All classes for the months of April and May are cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Folks who registered in these classes are offered to reschedule for another month, or receive a refund. Please just email us by replying to your order confirmation or through the website.
PLEASE NOTE: On rare occasion, we may need to move or reschedule am individual class date here or there to allow for business travel to market or other unanticipated personal reasons.
ADDITIONAL CLASS INFO. In each class, we teach from the beginning... from rhythm and frame, to lots of footwork. The guys learn to lead, and the ladies learn to follow.
While we have offered a larger number of classes in the past and there is enough material to create 12 months of classes without repeating any material, our experience teaching dancing at the store has been that most folks want to learn enough to go out and have fun, and look good scooting across the dance floor. So, we parred down our offerings to just a few classes.
In all seriousness, a good number of folks find even the beginning-level classes difficult. Just like learning to walk as a toddler or ride a bike as a child, dancing is not an instinctive ability or skill. There is much to learn that is not intuitive, and much time is spent explaining the basics and then repetitively honing the skill. And, just like many other activities, you will gain skill and confidence commensurate with your effort to learn it.
I say all this to also explain that it's not uncommon for folks to repeat a class. They do this for a variety of reasons.
Each time a student hears the material, they grasp more of the concepts and become more capable of implementing the material. Like peeling the layers of an onion, students master one thing at a time, then move forward to learn one more thing, then one more, then one more, and one more, etc....and at some point, the dance lessons student has the "ah ha!" moment where they realize they are making significant progress.
Many folks see retaking a class as simply getting more practice in a controlled and helping environment.
And, some folks find the classes very enjoyable as it has allowed them to meet other folks and make new friends with others in the classes.
REQUIRED FOOTWEAR. Leather-sole boots, of course! In C&W dancing, you slide your feet, and rarely ever lift your feet completely off the dance floor. Thus, leather-sole boots are needed as rubber-sole boots have way too much grip to allow your feet to slide. Please do not show up expecting to learn how to dance wearing footwear with rubber soles.
GROUP DANCE OUTINGS. Several times a year, we organize group outings typically to Big Texas in Spring and Whisky River near Willowbrook Mall. Once you've taken lessons with us, you are welcome to join our super-secret Facebook group, and join us when we go out dancing!
SWITCHING PARTNERS. In group lessons, we switch partners frequently. This is a non-negotiable requirement for everyone (especially couples) taking our dance lessons. Trust us – you will learn quicker by switching partners. If you do not want to switch partners, our classes are not for you.
REFUNDS & RESCHEDULING. We understand "life happens" when you least expect it. Business demands last minute travel, sickness, accidents, injuries, vehicular breakdowns, etc. We get it. However, when folks register for a class and then back out, it limits our ability to fill the class. As a result, we will gladly refund your tuition according to when we receive your refund request. Simply give us a call at the store to cancel or reschedule your registration.
100% - 10th of the prior month.
